Rosa Beltran Design {Blog}: EXPOSED WOOD BEAMS AND WHITE PAINTED CEILINGS

We live in a barn conversion and I have already painted over the skirting and doors to remove the dark colour paint. There are exposed wooden ceiling beams which over the years have been marked with white paint. I would like to whiten these so do I need to treat first and what paint would you recommend
